The Shroud of Timpanogos

The Shroud of Timpanogos
It was a cold, cold morning at Deer Creek Reservoir. We gazed upon the clouds as they floated above the water weaving a sparse blanket upon the distant Mt. Timpanogos. It was our hope that the clouds would break long enough for us to capture the first rays of light atop the distant peak. Our 6x17 film camera was ready as were we. The wait seemed to last forever; then suddenly the clouds began to shift North. The sky opened up providing our first glance of Timpanogos. We quickly pressed the shutter to capture the moment we are calling "The Shroud of TImpanogos".

The snow fell all evening; wet and heavy..... We knew the aspens near Deer Valley would appear different in these conditions, so we packed our gear for an early departure. As we hiked to the pass, we noticed the weight and texture of the snow as it embraced and rested atop the limbs of the trees. It was pure magic as we captured “White Wonder”.

Standing in the middle of the Dixie National Forest with only our camera and snowshoes it was completely silent. The air was dead clam as the sun went below the horizon, and you could literally hear a pin drop. As the sun vanished from sight, the blue hues of the cold night air made their presence known. We witnessed something very special and "Silence" was born.

It seemed the rain was not going to be kind to us as we had spent two days trying to capture this particular grove of aspens, that seemed to enjoy their own personal space unlike many other aspens we've photographed. But what was particularly wonderful was the back light. The field behind the aspens was golden. We felt Drawn In, captivated and entranced by their appearance.
